The Johnny Boge Classic – Recap

March 28th, 2011 Comments off

The Johnny Boge Classic
Sat. March 26, 2011
Tyler State Park DGC, Newtown, PA

28 players turned out for a great day of disc golf.  An unseasonably cold morning with temps in the 20’s greeted the players, but the skies were clear blue with abundant sunshine and temps rose into the 40’s by the afternoon.  Out on the course there were some tricky breezes that made longer putts and approaches a bit of a challenge for the players.

The tournament format was 1 round of 27 holes, followed by 1 round of 18 holes.  In the Pro division, Joe Mela opened with a solid 76, followed by Bob Graham and Glenn Patterson both shooting an 81.  Nick Knapp shot an 83 in the 1st round and was able to shoot a very nice 2nd round score of 52, but it wouldn’t be enough to catch Mela who kept the pressure on, also carding a 2nd round 52 to win the tournament by 7 strokes and take the $56 prize.

In the AM 1 division Scott White shot a 1st round 91, followed closely behind by Carey Holleran and Craig Smolin.  But it would be Holleran who would take 1st place by shooting a blistering 54 in the 2nd round, beating White by 4 strokes.

And in the AM 2 division, Rob Braun, who’s 1st round 89 had him in front of the top AM 1 player, couldn’t hang on and it would be Bret Loukides taking first place by 3 stokes.

The Womens AM 2 division was won by Ali Cottrell.

Thanks to Tim Fry there were 3 CTP prizes, Justin Ryan won a large golf umbrella for CTP Hole#27 in the 1st round, Glenn Patterson won a Discraft disc for CTP Hole#1 in the 2nd round and Carey Holleran also won a Discraft disc for CTP Hole#19 in the 2nd round.

Special thanks go out to Marie Fry for helping me run the tournament and staying behind up at “Tournament Central” taking care of scoring/prizes.  Your help was greatly appreciated!  THANKS MARIE!!
