August 29th, 2011 Comments off

If you missed the end of Summer League BBQ and prize payout on this past Saturday, your next chance for both is this Wednesday at the park, at 5:30pm until dark.  If you are able to come out to the park to do clean-up on the course that day as well, bonus you will also be fed.

Thanks,

John Birkrem

Course Work

8/31/2011 Update:  Thank you to all of the volunteers who worked to clean up the course this week.  Very much appreciated!

Well, here’s hoping that everyone survived the storm with minimal damage. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the course.  Although, the park is closed today for safety reasons, it is known that a lot of stuff came down on Hole 8.  It is believed that there is more clean up needed throughout the course.  Clean up efforts will begin on Monday, provided that the park is open.  If you have some time to lend, even an hour or two, please stop by and help out.  The Yetter will be upon us in less than 2 weeks.  Thank you in advance for your consideration, time and effort.

Mega Money Madness & Summer League Barbeque

August 28th, 2011 Comments off

Many were asking earlier in the week if these events would still occur because of the hype regarding “Irene.”  True to the disc golf tradition which is similar to the US Postal Service, we forged ahead.  Tables were freshened up and usable near Hole 2 and dedicated players and spectators arrived.  Unfortunately, other would-be participants did not arrive in time to join the action as our website had listed an incorrect time on the quick glance Google Calendar.  Immediate action was taken to prevent this mishap on upcoming events and the best source of information for every Tyler event is and will be the event flyer.  Always scroll down to the event listed beneath the Google Calendar to find the event flyer.

11 players and 5 spectators began the Madness event.  Ali Cottrell was the first player eliminated after 2 rounds.  Other participants then began to be quickly eliminated – Round 4 began without Tim Fry, Zak Prasak, Joe Mela and Joe Dalessandra.  Round 4 eliminated Rich Pelberg and Bob Braun.

Players were utilizing their strokes well and the semi-finals had John Birkrem, Greg Ferri, Rob Braun and Brett Loukides battling it out. Each player had 1 loss to their record, so no holds were barred at this critical point.  Unfortunately, Greg and John were eliminated with landslide differences of 8 and 10 strokes respectively.   The final pairing of Rob Braun and Brett Loukides was an exciting finish to this crazy game.  You can assume that both players are well-liked and respected as the stroke differences played for them was Brett -39 and Rob -37.  Rob shot a 23 which netted him a score of -14 and Brett shot a 22 netting him a -17.  Brett received a cool Mega Money Madness trophy and $230 in winnings ($40 was donated back to the Yetter – Thank you, Brett!).  A fun day was enjoyed by all and the revised format seemed to work out well.

Thanks to all of our grill-masters for keeping us fed and content and to JB for setting up the summer league barbecue.  “Irene” made her presence known during the final round, however, she was kind enough to let us finish without too much worry.  And thanks to everyone for the help cleaning up and helping ensure everyone getting home safely.

Winter league will start on October 16.  Looking forward to seeing everyone return and hope to have some new players join in the fun.  The next madness event will be in conjunction with the 2011-2012 Winter League party.
