Event Updates

May 25th, 2012 Comments off

The BCDGA has been very busy this spring with events and tournaments.  Here are some quick recaps:

April 29 was an exciting fun-filled day as the BCDGA joined with Bonnie Tobin, Environmental Education Specialist, Tyler State Park, to host mini disc golf clinics for local Girl Scouts, Brownies and 4H members.  Thanks to the BCDGA club members who volunteered their time to help instruct and guide over 110 participants.

May 12 was the annual Ladies Clinic.  Attendance was expected to be lower as the Women’s Global Event was taking place that same day.  However, 12 beginner and Intermediate ladies were there for the morning session.  It was a wonderful group to work with and 3 of the ladies left with all the disc golf equipment needed to get them started.  The afternoon session had 4 women in attendance with Bob Graham leading discussion on rules, situations in tournament play and other topics.  Different grips, stances and throwing techniques were also explored.  Again, many thanks for those who helped throughout the entire day and all those who donated items for the ladies.  Note:  Attendees of this clinic have been seen playing on the course.  And – one lady brought a guy new to the game to show him how to play – that’s progress!!    We are planning to hold another Ladies Clinic on a Sunday – date has not been determined yet.

The GE Am Cup saw 89 amateur players battling it out on the course.  Many thanks to Stu and Eric for all of their hard work.  Sincerest appreciation goes to the grounds crew and numerous volunteers who had the course looking AMAZING.  Kudos to the spotters and other volunteers who helped the players and kept everyone moving.  And finally, we are very grateful to the Sponsors of the Great Eastern Amateur Cup.  Thank you for a fantastic event.

I am very proud of the individual members who are the Bucks County Disc Golf Alliance.  We still have a busy schedule ahead of us – Let’s keep up the good work.    In fact – let me share a quick story with a back-handed compliment:  Tim and I were with friends at another course recently, telling a player from out of state that he should play at Tyler if he got the chance.  We were telling him how great the course looks right now with all of the work that has been done.  Another player familiar with our course said, “Yeah. Could you guys slow down a little?  You’re making the other courses look bad.”     I’m okay with that!

Thank you!!!  :)  Marie
